Privacy Policy
Effective date: January 13, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how ShredMap ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information about you when you use our mobile application ShredMap (the "App") and any related services.
By using ShredMap, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this Policy, please do not use the App.
1. Who We Are
2. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
2.1 Account and Profile Information
When you create an account or sign in, we collect:
- Email address (for email/password sign-in and account recovery)
- Username and display name
- Profile information you choose to provide (e.g., avatar/photo, bio)
- Authentication identifiers provided by third parties (e.g., Google, Apple)
- Internal attributes related to your account, such as whether you have admin privileges
2.2 Authentication Data (Third-Party Sign-In)
If you choose to sign in with Google or Apple, we receive information from those providers, which may include:
- A unique identifier from the provider
- Your email address
- Your display name and profile image (if you grant permission)
We use this information only to create and manage your ShredMap account and do not control how those providers use your data. Their use is governed by their own privacy policies.
2.3 User Content
To provide the core features of ShredMap, we process content you create, upload, or contribute, such as:
- Spots: Spot name, description, photos, videos, difficulty, type, tags, and precise geographic coordinates
- Clips / Posts: Photos or videos you upload, captions, timestamps, and any associated spot they are linked to
- Interactions: Ratings, likes, comments, follows/followers, and activity with other users' content
Content you post may be visible to other users of the App, depending on how ShredMap is configured and any privacy controls offered.
2.4 Location Information
ShredMap uses location information in two ways:
Your device's current location:
- We may access your device's precise location (via GPS, Wi-Fi, and cellular) only with your permission.
- This is used to show your current location on the map and help you find nearby spots.
- Your current location used for these features is not stored long-term on our servers, but logs and analytics providers may receive approximate location information (e.g., IP address or coarse location).
Location in user-generated content:
- Spots and clips you add can include coordinates or be associated with a map location.
- These locations are stored in our database so other users can discover and navigate to those spots.
You can disable location permissions at any time in your device settings, but some map-based features may no longer work.
2.5 Usage and Device Information
We may automatically collect:
- Device type, operating system version, and unique device identifiers
- App version
- IP address and general location inferred from IP
- Logs relating to app performance, errors, and interactions (e.g., which screens you view, taps, and features used)
This is typically collected through our backend and through services such as Firebase.
